Description

The Public Disclosure Commission (PDC) has completed its review of the complaint filed by Roger Lenk on October 16, 2017. The complaint alleged that Pasco Citizens for Better Schools (Respondent), a political committee, may have violated RCW 42.17A.430 for gathering post-election contributions for a ballot proposition after the election cycle as defined by RCW 42.17A.005(21) had passed.

PDC staff reviewed the allegations; the applicable statutes, rules, and reporting requirements; the responses provided by the Respondent; the applicable PDC reports filed by the Respondent; and queried the Respondent’s data in the PDC contribution and expenditure database, to determine whether the record supports a finding of one or more violations.

Based on our findings staff has determined that, in this instance, registering as a political committee one day beyond the statutory deadline does not amount to a violation that warrants further investigation.

PDC staff is reminding Pasco Citizens for Better Schools about the importance of timely registering as a political committee within two weeks of the expectation of receiving contributions or making expenditures in an election campaign. PDC staff expects timely registration and reporting of contribution and expenditure activity in the future in accordance with statutes and rules.

Based on this information, the PDC finds that no further action is warranted and has dismissed this matter in accordance with RCW 42.17A.755(1).
