The complaint alleged that 43rd Legislative District Democrats and officers may have violated RCW 42.17A.235 by dissolving the political committee before debts, obligations, activities, and functions had ceased; failing to timely report contributions, expenditures, and disposition of assets; and failing to preserve books of account, bills, receipts, and all other financial records of the political committee for not less than five calendar years following the year during which the transaction occurred.
PDC staff reviewed the allegations and found they were substantially similar to a citizen action complaint filed with the Attorney General's Office pursuant to RCW 42.17A.765. On November 1, 2017, the PDC became aware that a lawsuit containing substantially similar allegations was filed in Superior Court in the name of Washington State, giving the Superior Court primary jurisdiction over the substance of this complaint. The PDC deferred judgment in bringing the issues to resolution.
The PDC dismissed the matter, did not conduct a more formal investigation in the complaint or pursue further enforcement action in this case.
